Rick Fortier, the author of The Shift Squad – Showing Up At the Hub Of The Universe sits down with us for this author interview.
I need to give a heads up that a blurb I wrote is on the back of his book and I have written a review of the book.
Personally I think it is an excellent book that everyone should read. It is one of my cherished books in my library.
For full disclosure, these questions were submitted in writing so that Rick Fortier could answer them as written text.
Question 1: Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I once lived a middle-class corporate life, but now choose to thrive in a minimalist nomadic lifestyle. I am a certified Neuro-Linguistic Practitioner (NLP), SMART Recovery® Facilitator, and am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). My first novel – Shift Squad – is a first step in guiding others to be self-empowered and take ownership of their health and happiness. My wife Susan and I call Vancouver Island home.
Question 2: What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My novel is entitled, The Shift Squad – Showing Up at the Hub of the Universe.
It is a fictional story set on Vancouver Island that teaches life-skills on how to be empowered and take ownership of your mental health and wellbeing.
I was inspired to write it as I looked back on my recovery from addictive behaviors and how I improved my overall health and well-being. I wanted to share with others what I had learned.
Question 3: What are you working on now, and what are you reading now?
I am working on a book of short stories, as well as an accompanying workbook for The Shift Squad. I am a voracious reader, reading multiple books (non-fiction, science fiction, political satire, fantasy) at the moment.
Question 4: Where do you get your ideas?
Personal experience, books/stories, movies, and real-life events.
Question 5: What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Nothing has any meaning except the meaning we give it.
Question 6: What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?
Don Shetterly, and a number online thru Facebook groups and local writing groups where I live. They inspire me with their work, their stories, and resilience and determination – as well as their feedback.
Question 7: What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a number of ideas (short stories) that could be transformed into novels – once my book of short stories is finished. Nothing concrete at this moment.
Question 8: Where can someone purchase your books, and how can they reach you?
